When AI Comes to Town: Water Infrastructure and Community Readiness
The Water Center at Penn is pleased to present When AI Comes to Town: Water Infrastructure and Community Readiness, a webinar focused on how data centers affect local communities and infrastructure. The webinar will take place on Monday, March 30th at 12pm ET. As AI-driven development accelerates, communities are increasingly grappling with how large-scale data centers and related infrastructure affect local water systems, planning processes, and public trust. This webinar will focus on how communities, utilities, and policymakers can prepare for the expansion of AI and data-driven development. The conversation will explore forward-looking approaches to infrastructure planning, siting and permitting, coordination between the tech sector and water providers, and the role of transparency and public engagement. Speakers, listed below, will highlight practical strategies that can help communities as AI development accelerates. The webinar will serve as a lead-in to the Water Center at Penn’s Spring Water Policy Forum on April 16th, focused this year on AI for Water: Policy at the Speed of Technology, where the focus will shift to how AI and digital solutions can be used within the water sector itself. Together, the webinar and forum are designed to frame the two-way relationship between water and AI and support more grounded, actionable policy conversations on both sides of the issue.
Speakers include:
- Mayor Kate Gallego, Mayor, City of Phoenix
- Michael Lesniak, Vice President of Global Partnerships, Aquatech International
- Alton Echols, Deputy General Manager, Loudoun Water
- Nina Morris (Moderator), Director of Sustainability, University of Pennsylvania, Office of Sustainability
